How to grab tickets with a passport
Sanxingdui sells tickets only through its official WeChat mini-program, and the new museum is one of the hardest tickets in China. Slots open several days ahead and the morning session sells out fast — book the moment they release.

Search "三星堆博物馆" (Sanxingdui Museum) in WeChat
Open the official mini-program (blue verification badge). Tap 门票预约 / "Ticket Booking".

Choose a date and the 8:30 morning session
Under ID type select 护照 (Passport), enter your passport number and name exactly as printed. Morning entry lets you reach the bronze hall before the tour groups.

Pay ¥72 and save the QR

Opening hours
8:30–18:00 (last entry 17:00). Closed on public holidays' eve only — check the mini-program before rare closures.
Where it is
Guanghan, ~40 km north of Chengdu. The new museum sits beside the excavation pits — one ticket covers both.
Best time to visit
Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are ideal — mild weather and manageable crowds. Summer (Jul–Aug) is the Chinese school-holiday peak: book days ahead and arrive at the 8:30 opening. Winters are cold but quiet, with short queues. Whenever you go, be at the gate by 8:30 — the bronze exhibition hall is glorious before the buses arrive.
Getting there from Chengdu
Three realistic ways to reach Sanxingdui from Chengdu. Pick by budget, time, and how much hassle you'll tolerate.
High-speed rail + taxi
Intercity train from Chengdu East to Guanghan North (~20 min, book on trip.com with passport). Then a 15-minute taxi (~¥25) to the museum. Fastest and most flexible.

Scenic direct bus
Direct shuttle buses run from Chengdu (Chunxi Road area / Xinnanmen) to the museum. Cheaper than a taxi and door-to-door, but fewer departures and fixed return times.

A half-day guided tour from Chengdu handles tickets, transport, and a English guide. Most hassle-free — but you trade flexibility and pay a premium (often ¥300–600+ per person).

A 3-day Chengdu + Sanxingdui plan
Pair Sanxingdui with Chengdu's other highlights — the Giant Pandas and the Jinsha Site Museum, where many Sanxingdui-style artifacts were found.
Day 1 — Chengdu arrival & pandas
Giant Panda Base, then Jinli old street
Arrive Chengdu. Morning at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (be there at 7:30 opening for active pandas). Afternoon wander Jinli and the Wuhou Shrine. Easy, low-transit day to beat jet lag.
Day 2 — Sanxingdui (the main event)
Sanxingdui Museum, Guanghan
Take the morning train to Guanghan, at the museum by 8:30. Spend 3–4 hours on the bronze masks, gold scepter, and sacred tree. Back to Chengdu for the evening — try Guanghan rabbit hotpot (兔火锅) before you leave.
Day 3 — Jinsha & departure
Jinsha Site Museum, then fly or rail out
The Jinsha Site Museum holds the sun-ring gold disc and ivory — the direct cultural link to Sanxingdui. A 2–3 hour visit, then onward to Xi'an (high-speed rail) or your flight home.
Firsthand tip: do Sanxingdui before Jinsha. Seeing the bronzes first makes the Jinsha gold disc land ten times harder — you'll recognize the same sun-worshipping motif.
